When You Were Born in
Vietnam is the third book in the thoughtful
series of adoption photo-essays published by Yeong & Yeong Book
Company. Speaking directly to adopted children, this book offers a clear
and straightforward explanation of how children in Vietnam are placed
for adoption. When You Were Born in Vietnam brings to life
through superb, emotion-filled full color photography the story of an
adoption from an orphanage in Vietnam.
Accompany a child from arrival at the orphanage,
witness the loving care that is given there, and follow the journey
through to placement in a new, forever family. The Bartletts offer a
brief overview of Vietnam and together with stunning photography capture
the richness of the people and their culture while offering a view of
the many hardships their birthparents may have faced that ultimately led
them to make the decision to find loving families to raise and care for
their children. A touching keepsake for all children adopted from
Vietnam, the book is a must for school-aged children who are becoming
aware of their own unique adoption stories as well as for the adults who
love them. Social workers and adoption agencies will find it a useful
tool for themselves and for sharing with adoptive families. Families
waiting to adopt from Vietnam will be especially delighted with this
book, as they gain a fuller understanding of the joy that waits for them
across the ocean.
Just as
When You Were
Born in Korea and
When You Were
Born in China were developed as fund-raising efforts for
adoption-related projects in Korea and China, all proceeds from the sale
of this book will be donated to the Catalyst Foundation, a non-profit,
non-political organization founded in 1999 by a couple who adopted twin
daughters from Vietnam. Catalyst aims to improve the lives of Vietnamese
children through relief efforts and increased adoptions so that the
children may reach their full potential.
